About Jerome
Born to Jerome and Lisa Bailey in Houston, TX on August 20th, 1991 Jerome Douglas Bailey Jr. is a senior mass communications major and marketing minor with a concentration in public relations Jerome has been an only child to a single mother since age one after the passing his father. Bailey currently serves on the Student Government Association as Mister Dillard University 2012-2013.
Jerome has a strong love for Dillard and the city of New Orleans, which he considers his “home away from home”. Dillard has given Jerome the chance to grown into the man he never imagined. His love for service is coupled with his ambition to succeed in life. Jerome believes that positive thoughts will translate in positive actions. He does his best to bring a smile to as many faces as he can each day.
He has spent countless hours completing community service and mentoring young men in the Greater New Orleans area. His goal is for all young men to know that they can be great no matter what their current or past circumstances are. Jerome has a deep adoration of arts and music. He can often be found reciting poetry at local talent shows or shooting videos around campus.
Bailey has consistently made his presence known at Dillard. In the fall of 2009 he served as Mr. Freshman Class 1st Gentleman to former Mister Dillard University Michael McField. He then became a junior fellow of the intercultural exchange program, the Melton Foundation and a member of the Collegiate 100 Black Men of Dillard where he would go on to serve as Vice President and Historian. In the fall of 2011, Bailey was initiated into the Beta Phi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated. He currently serves in three key roles for the chapter as Public Relations Representative, Historian and Associate Editor of the Sphinx, the official publication of the fraternity.
While heavily involved in extra curricular activities on campus, Bailey has a passion for all things mass media. Students can often catch him producing videos on the Avenue of the Oaks. He played a vital role in re-establishing Dillard’s in house radio station WDUB in the fall of 2011. Jerome was the first general manager of the station since its return and now serves as the promotional director and host of his own hip hop show. Bailey serves as a writer for the Dillard University newspaper, the Courtbouillon and HBCUBuzz, a historically black college news source.
In the fall of 2013, Jerome will attend the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism to receive a masters of science. He plans to use his versatility in mass media to make a positive and lasting impact on his community, and the world.
